Networking amongst Presales teams within the Formis Group helps to build rapport so that we can leverage better on our resources. Formis Computer Services - Presales Division organized our annual Christmas lunch gathering on 14^th Dec to thank those who worked with us over the past year.

Each company had to present a 2 minute speech on their Company Profile. The best presenter award went to Don Schulz of Comline – the only one who distributed a brochure. Kelvin led the game session where our products or IT terminology words were used and participants had to draw. The team were in stitches guessing the creative infrastructure and pictures eg SAN Replication, Oracle Fusion Middleware and anti-virus. We had the pleasure of having presales from FST, DGB, CLS, FNS, FSSB, ABS, FBS, FCS and ISS. The team participated enthusiastically in the gift exchange.

Race-A-Maze is a HUNT with elements of Amazing Race and Fear Factor.  Participants will be required to travel a certain distance on foot. A Team shall be made up of a maximum 4 persons.

 

Formis will be participating in Race-A-Maze organized by RAM in conjunction with their 20^th anniversary celebrations and to raise funds for the Spastic Children Association of Selangor and Federal Territory and the Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children Centre.  Details for the event are as follows :

It is now my turn and the time to say GoodBye to you all in as far as my working life in Formis is concerned. It has been a good 20 years and 5 months! Naturally I want to thank my bosses especially Dato’ Mah and Mr Chan Ngow for their leadership. As for the rest of the management team, you are "noted". My crazy colleagues, my sincere thanks for putting up with the noise and more noise.

First Solution (FSSB) recently rewarded some of their business partners with a trip to Bali, Indonesia.

They were the business partners who contributed a minimum of RM400,000 with FSSB within a span of seven months during the last financial year, and had adhered to its strict Terms and Conditions.

Among the highlights of the getaway were a) Whitewater Rafting on Ayung River b) Special cultural show over dinner c) Balinese spa for each business partner.

This year, our group of business partners was an exciting group as they were those who look forward to doing new things.

As for this financial year, it is good to hear the audience positive remarks when we announced it to them during the Bali trip regarding the 'Korean Formula-One Challenge'.

We hope to be able to bring more partners with us this time as the measurement period for the accumulative sales will be for 12 months.

 

The Marketing and QA Division initiated a quarterly donation drive in early April to do our bit to help needy and underprivileged people. We picked Persatuan Warga Tua ( dan Kanak-kanak ) Wilayah Persekutuan this time to channel our donations to after going through their profile.

For 3 weeks, we saw donations coming in all kinds, a bit of everything as per listed in their Need List such as cooking oil, oyster sauce, biscuits, mee hoon, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and tooth paste, pencils, colour pencils, pre-loved clothing and pharmaceutical goods (plaster, calamine lotion, cotton etc) plus of course cash donations.

We chose 14 May to drop off the goods collected to the home. Just before we left, we were asked to go over to Dato’ Mah Siew Kwok’s room to sing him a birthday song. Once we were done with the wishing and singing, we saw Danny Chiam, COO of Applied Business Systems and asked him to contribute to this cause. Not only did he donate without asking for more information, he even got his 2 staff to contribute as well. Other than them, Dato’ Mah also forked out a generous sum. On behalf of the staff of FBS, we would like to thank them all for their kind generosity.

With the additional sum collected, we headed off to a hypermarket and stocked up 2 cartful loads of items in the list such as jam, canned sardines, soya sauce, tomato ketchup, milo, milk powder, rice, soap, washing powder and so forth.

Once done, we went over to the home in Taman Petaling. We were glad to have picked Persatuan Warga Tua ( dan Kanak-kanak ) Wilayah Persekutuan as the beneficiary. The home is a double-storey link house which shelters 28 occupants of which 18 were children. The older children were happy to receive us and the occupants helped us to retrieve the goods from our vehicles.

With this, we would like to express our gratitude to all who have contributed to this cause. Your kind deed is deeply appreciated.

This was a customer event jointly organized by Diversified Gateway Berhad and Avaya on March 24th, 2010. There were more than 50 key customers, mainly head of companies or IT divisions with us at the highest spot of KL - Menara KL. It was a clear sky evening showcasing the beautiful panorama view of KL city center. Our customers and guests were filled with free flow of drinks, buffet dinner, fabulous gifts and lucky draw prizes. More importantly, our customers took home with them the key message by Formis Resources Berhad’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dato’ Mah and the corporate update by Avaya ASEAN MD, Mr Ray Teske. Amongst our honorable guests for that evening were YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Megat Najmuddin, Chairman of Formis and Avaya Country Manager, Teh Chai Peng.

 

We are proud to announce that the entire FORMIS BASS’ QA team has passed the ISTQB Certified Tester Examination and attained ISTQB ( International Software Testing Qualifications Board ) Certification in Software Testing. ISTQB is administered by MSTB ( Malaysian Software Testing Board ), a recognized national testing board. Congratulations guys!

We are happy to announce that the corporate exercise involving the  Reverse-Takeover of ISS Consulting Solutions Berhad (ISS) was completed on 14 April 2010.

Following the completion of this exercise, Formis Resources Berhad (FRB)  through Formis Holdings Berhad, now holds approximately 59% equity interest in ISS. In this regard, ISS is now a subsidiary of FRB.

ISS is listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (Bursa), while FRB is listed on the Main Market of Bursa.

Mr Ken Tan Kien Hok took up the position of General Manager for Continuous Network Advisers Sdn Bhd in August 2007. After a stint of two years and eight months, Ken will be leaving us on 1 April.  We want to thank Ken for his tenure at CNA and wish him every success in whatever he undertakes to do.

At the same time we also want to wish En Ahmad Zaki all the best as he undertakes to look after CNA for the time being. This is in addition to Zaki’s  present role as General Manager of Formis Network Services Sdn Bhd. Thanks Zaki!

Formis Group held its annual business plan presentation session at its Conference & Training Center yesterday. All Heads of Company reviewed their 2009/2010 performance and shared their plans for the financial year ahead.

The Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Mah Siew Kwok challenged the team to work harder in order to keep to their plans and meet their targets.

Formis Resources Berhad (FRB) received shareholders’ approval for its reverse takeover (RTO) of leading SAP solutions provider, ISS Consulting Solutions Bhd (ISS). The RTO of ISS is via the injection of FRB’s subsidiary Diversified Gateway Berhad (DGB) into ISS.

The RTO is part of a corporate exercise approved by shareholders at the Company’s extraordinary general meeting on 17 March 2010. The proposed corporate exercise has received all the relevant approvals, except for Securities Commission’s approval for the Proposed Dividend-In-Specie and the Mandatory General Offer. After the distribution in-specie, FRB will hold 59.3% of ISS.The distribution of the Proposed Dividend-In-Specie will be implemented upon receipt of the approval from the relevant authorities and in compliance of all the conditions stated.

An entourage of 12 key managers from Formis Group visited HeiTech Village 2 Data Center on 25 Feb, 2010. Lead by its CEO,  Dato’ Mah Siew Kwok, the team was given a very impressive introduction and visit of the data center, which culminated with a sumptuous lunch complete with the auspicious toss of ‘yee sang”.

En Abdul Halim, the CEO of HeiTech Managed Services Sdn Bhd expressed that the visit is not only to introduce their data center and its services but more importantly to foster a closer working relationship with Formis Group. We certainly look forward to meeting that objective and have a great 2010 together.

After 2 years absence, the Avid Roadshow was back on 26 Dec 2009.  This time we brought the whole suite of products to showcase Avid's new releases for year 2009 to our customers. The roadshow was held at Sime Darby Convention Centre. We collaborated with our local resellers DTA and Digital Aspect making the event much bigger in terms of Avid's customers spread.  The response was really encouraging and we certainly look forward to another show next year!!

Bringing together presales from the Formis group in an informal way at Christmas created a pleasant environment to get to know each other better. Formis Computer Services - Presales Division organized a lunch gathering as a gesture of thanks to those who worked with us over the past year. Each company briefly introduced their core competencies. We had the pleasure of having presales or their Reps from each company represented – FST, CNA, DGB, CLS, Tera, FNS, FSSB, ABS, FBS and ISS.

In the spirit of Christmas, this lunch was a personal sponsorship. Some home-cooked food, pizza, fruit cake, butter cake, and a Gift Exchange lightened the spirit.

More than 50 senior management staff of both ISS Group and Formis Group gathered for a half day familiarization session on 3 December 2009.

Mr Harald Weinbrecht the Chief Executive Officer of ISS led the ISS Group with a corporate overview, followed by the respective presenters representing ISS Malaysia, ISS Singapore, ISS Thailand and Cogent.

Formis Resources Berhad was introduced by its Managing Director Mr Chan Ngow while Dato’ Mah the Chief Executive Officer concluded the session with a closing remark.

The 13 active IT subsidiaries of Formis were introduced individually by its head of company or its designated presenter . It was a heavy half-a-day  in terms of number of presentations but albeit a useful and interesting session.

   

On 21st October 2009, FORMIS BASS Software hosted its Solutions Day at Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

Themed ‘ The Time Is Now - Aligning IT / IS with your business in coping with the financial crisis and the challenges beyond ‘, the event that was specially put together for the financial services industry drew fairly good response from the banking, insurance and securities sectors.

The industry experts talked on industry best practices, investing in practical solutions and the right technology to help lower costs and deliver results - more so now than ever to weather the prolonged economic downturn.

Networking was in full swing during the breaks, lunch and solutions showcase session. Some of the solutions showcased were our partners’ systems ( RMSS’ Enterprise Risk Intelligence, QlikView’s Business Intelligence, InfoConnect’s Workflow and Imaging System, Four J’s Genero, IBM and ECS ) and FORMIS BASS’ home grown insurance, securities and banking solutions.

The event concluded with a grand draw with the lucky winners walking away with a HP mini notebook and a Garmin.

The event was well received by participants. ( based on positive feedback ) On the whole, it was a successful day, in terms of turnout, presentation and opportunity to meet and network with participants from the Financial Services Industry.

We are happy to announce and welcome Ms Mah Xian-Zhen to Formis Group.
 
Xian-Zhen holds two portfolios ;  Director of Wang Corporation Sdn Bhd as well as Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Formis Resources Berhad.

Xian-Zhen, a graduate of Wellesley College, USA  is also a qualified lawyer who was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2006 and admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2007. Prior to joining Formis Group, she was a Legal Assistant in Shook Lin & Bok. 

Xian- Zhen also has an array of work experiences ranging from volunteering in various grass-roots and non-governmental organisations both locally and abroad to working as a research intern at the Institute for Strategic & International Studies. Xian-Zhen is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay and Spanish.

 

The Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) recently held its “1 e-GOV Conference 2009”  in Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC). In conjunction with the conference, a mini expo was held and Formis took the opportunity to showcase the “e-Court” solution.

Formis Resources Bhd (FRB) announced it is divesting its 90% subsidiary Diversified Gateway Bhd (DGB) to ISS Consulting Solutions Bhd (ISS) for RM99 million, under a corporate exercise that will give FRB control of ISS, a company listed on the Ace Market of Bursa Securities.

The proposed sale consideration for DGB will be satisfied via the issuance of 990 million new ISS shares of 10 sen each to Formis Holdings Berhad or its nominee, resulting in a reverse takeover of ISS by FRB whereby FRB will hold 73.02% stake in the enlarged ISS. The share sale agreement for DGB was concluded at a signing ceremony held on 12 October 2009.

FRB is also proposing to distribute 185.9 million or 13.7% of the new ISS shares to its shareholders on the basis of one ISS share for every one FRB share held, reducing FRB’s stake in ISS to 59.3%.  FRB Group expects to realize a gain on disposal of approximately RM58.19 million (before consolidating the ISS Group with DGB) upon completion of the disposal.
